Therapeutic Raw Chocolate Brownies!
As you might know or not - I'm not one for denying or restricting. It's more a matter of retraining your tastebuds to like wholesome naturally sweet food again.
However, these brownies are absolutely delish! All natural, all raw and very filling. They nourish both the body and the emotions - and because of the doTERRA oils used, they're therapeutic! That's food! lol
If you feel like something sweet and chocolaty go for it - these brownies do the trick.
(Please only use doTERRA oils. They're the only ones I can vouch for absolute purity and safety for internal use. It can be extremely dangerous to ingest any essential oil that isn't labelled suitable for internal consumption.)
2 1/2 cups pitted dates
1 ½ cups pecans (or almonds or walnuts or a mix of them)
6 tbsp cocoa powder (go for raw but if you can’t find, plain unsweetened cocoa powder is fine)
1 tsp vanilla extract
A couple of tsps water
¼ cup cocoa powder (yes, again)
¼ cup maple syrup
2 tbsp coconut oil
Splash of vanilla extract
Optional doTERRA oils for frosting (These really make the recipe zing and make them therapeutic too! Can find all of them on the link www.mydoterra.com/marishahorsman)
5 drops Wild Orange + 3 drops Cardamom
Or
5 drops Wild Orange + 3 drops Cinnamon
Or
10 Peppermint
Or
6 drops Cinnamon
Combine dates, nuts, 6 tbsp cocoa, 1 ½ tsp vanilla, water in a food processor. Process until completely smooth, scrap down as you need to.
Don't panic! I've had multiple photos sent to me over the years by panicked friends of their food processes struggling - it is very, very dry to begin with.
Persevere and add tinsy winsy drops of water at a time if you have to - because if you add too much you'll have raw chocolate sludge. As sludge goes it tastes very good but it's a right mess to eat (speaking from experience!).
Transfer mixture to a baking pan lined with baking parchment.
Then place the remainder of the ingredients (minus oils) in a small saucepan and gently heat…do not boil...gently, gently goes…whilst stirring. When mixed thoroughly take off heat and add essential oils if applicable. Then smooth over the dough in pan.
Refrigerate for a couple of hours…or put in the freezer for 30 mins if you haven’t the time!
Keep in fridge once set, will keep for a couple of weeks, or a couple of months in the freezer.
Thank you to my Cousin Anne who is a raw food, essential oil Goddess, who gave me this recipe (and also introduced me to doTERRA oils, for which I'll be forever grateful).
